"The board extends its appreciation to both Richard and Scott for their
contributions to the business, particularly during the recent difficult
market conditions," says the press release.
Tim Hawkes has been appointed acting Group CFO with immediate effect. Howard
Williams has been appointed acting general manager of IQE.
Electroglas has reduced overall headcount by 130, partially offset by an
addition of 45 employees at a new manufacturing facility in Singapore. As
Singapore operations grow, a further reduction of headcount in San Jose will
be made. Additionally, existing spending controls and cost-cutting measures
remain in place.
Curt Wozniak, CEO and chairman of the board, reports: "Recent indications
from industry analysts lead us to believe that the business environment has
softened for the second half of the year. Projections are that 2003 will be
a growth year and we want to be prepared to take advantage of that
expansion."
IC producer IXYS has reduced headcounts by 30% as a result of the
integration plan for its Clare acquisition. The cuts have been specifically
in overhead and non-core areas, eliminating redundancies and consolidating
operations.
Clare's wafer fab in Massachussetts is now available for foundry services to
fabless semiconductor companies. Processing capabilities include silicon on
insulator (SOI), high voltage ICs (HVIC), and specialised microsystems
(MEMS). IXYS has started the installation of its high voltage reverse
blocking IGBT process in the fab, which is more cost effective than IXYS'
present external foundry. Clare has also implemented a plan of using IXYS
power MOSFETs in its line of solid state relays (SSRs) for the larger power
market. New products are scheduled for introduction in Q4 2002.
At the Clare-Micronix division in California, the focus is on the
development and introduction of standard products, particularly for the
emerging area of organic light emitting diode (OLED) flat panel display and
cholesteric non-volatile display markets.
